Abstrakt (ENG):
The aim of the study is to analyze the similarities and differences between two novels of Slovak writer Ján Hrušovský (1892-1975) – Peter Pavel na prahu nového sveta (Peter Pavel on the Threshold of the New World; 1930) and Jánošík (1932). The novels stand as the borderline between two eras of autor’s work – the first novel marks the end of his efforts in quality literature, while the other one is considered to mark a beginning of his much less ambitious efforts for the broader audience. Their comparison should thus show the consequences of this change on the structure of the given texts. However, it rather uncovered
(surprising) similarities, confirming that Hrušovský’s work had always used the methods and strategies that were typical for the popular literature.
