Abstrakt (ENG):

The aim of this paper is to map the way in which official Marxist criticism after 1948 attempted to appropriate Čapek’s novel War with the Newts for the purposes of communist propaganda. We will present three different approaches to the text. Zdeněk Pešat’s study is an honest work of literary criticism accompanied by several blatherings about the regime, František Buriánek’s study is on the borderline between a scholarly and a propaganda text, while Jan Cigánek’s study is mere propaganda and a misuse of Čapek’s literary legacy.
