Abstrakt (ENG):
Attention is drawn to “the pre-reception” of Kundera’s work, and this in the specific Czech reading environment. It is also concerned with the audio recording of a speech by the author which was heard at the award ceremony of the State Prize for Literature in October 2007 in connection with the new Czech edition of the novel The Unbearable Lightness of Being. He gives tribute in the talk to Zdena Salivarová, makes mention of the genius of Czech film in the 1960s and the significance of the play Jacques and His Master, as this has maintained contact with the Czech public. He also brought up the the distinct quality of Czech humour and the personage of Ludvík Vaculík. In conclusion, he celebrated the wealth of European literature and culture. The third part of the study, entitled The Writer on the Pillory, focuses on the media attacks on the author over the last ten years. Finally, there are references to the wider social contexts, Kundera’s “reading biography” and mention of his distrust for the mass media.
