Abstrakt (ENG):

The article explores the previously never systematically exposed interwar political thought of the poet Emil Boleslav Lukáč. As national and social questions rose to prominence in his poetry, Lukáč turned out a successful mediator on the increasingly divided Slovak literary scene of the 1930s. Simultaneously, Lukáč became the leading figure of Association of Lutheran Youth in Slovakia, convening and attending international Protestant conferences and introducing new pastoral approaches such as the social and evangelistic zeal of Young Men’s Christian Association. Unusually for a Slovak Lutheran, Lukáč entered politics as parlamentarian for Czechoslovak National Socialist Party in 1936. While initially a stark opponent of Hlinka’s Slovak People’s Party, the events of Munich Agreement and Vienna Award made him continue his parliamentary career in the war-time Slovak Republic.
