Abstrakt (ENG):

This study builds on the literary-historical legacy and methodology of Professor Marta Keruľová in her research on Hugolín Gavlovič’s Valaská škola (1755). It is based on the thesis of the “untouched anatomy of the religious genre” in this work. It focuses on the formative intention of the text, which significantly takes into account the role of the reader (recipient) in literary communication, while identifying the influence of homiletic (sermon) approaches. An analysis of a specific group of texts—the opening poems (concepts) of each chapter of Valaská škola—reveals, on the one hand, a previously overlooked pattern: they always address a spiritual theme; at the same time, however, it also confirms their specific function: they serve as an exegetical interpretation of the preceding biblical story and provide the fundamental elements of the reader’s spiritual formation (e.g., a call to love God, humility, or an awareness of one’s own human worth and responsibility for the salvation of the soul). This attests to the ideological, compositional, and functional compatibility of Gavlovič’s poetic work with the genre of the sermon.
