Abstrakt (ENG):

The article explores the previously never systematically exposed political thought of the Slovak writer and cultural organizer Jozef Cíger Hronský. Like other intellectuals in East Central Europe in the Interwar period, Hronský advanced an ethno-nationalistic cultural vision of bolstering the supposed autochthony of, in his case, the Slovak people. Hronský rose to prominence during the clash with the Czechoslovakist Slovak elite over a linguistic treatise in May 1932. While advancing a conception of modern Slovak culture centered around a notion of the all-enduring Slovak village in his writings and lectures, he simultaneously engaged in the build-up of institutions and initiatives, including a tour in the United States, dedicated to spreading such vision as the secretary of Matica slovenská.
